Today I’m with Heath from Access Services Group, one of our home benefits preferred providers, and he’s going to talk to us about how to stay cool during these hot summer months. I have many clients who run into problems with their air conditioning systems during the summer, and need some tips for keep their A/C units working properly.
One of the first things that Heath recommends is making sure that the filters on the inside of the units are changed regularly. Heath also recommends that the outdoor unit is maintained and checked at least twice a year, so they can ensure that all the parts are clean and working properly.
If residents are living in the home, Heath’s advice is to leave the temperature in the home at around 82 degrees when they’re away at work for the day. If the residence is unoccupied, then a solid temperature range is around 85 to 86 degrees. If homeowners come home and try and bring the temperature down more than 10 degrees, then the unit will run all night and run up your electric bill.

Finally, to reduce the chances of a hot home this summer, make sure that the blinds are drawn and that the side of the house that sees the most amount of sun is well-insulated against that heat using drapes, blinds or other window coverings.
